Joyful Service

Working in teams, Good Works Summer Work Camp volunteers help repair homes and engage with homeowners. Our Work Crew Leaders will teach basic repairs, so that all are able to participate. Volunteers may grow in their faith through conversations with their homeowners and through daily devotions.

FAQ

Groups of adults and youth ages 15 and up. We require a minimum of 35 participants with a ratio of 1 adult (age 25 or older) for every 4 youth. This ratio is helpful in managing the group as well as building intergenerational relationships within your church community. While you are seeking adult attendees, please also consider their knowledge of various construction skills. By having several skilled adults and a small adult to youth ratio, teens will be better able to learn new skills which they can use at home and during subsequent mission trips with us or other ministries.

If there are adults in the church with skills in general home repair who would like to help but cannot commit for the entire week, please invite them to join the group sometime during the camp. Additional technical assistance is always welcome!

The cost to participate in a full week of Good Works Work Camp is $500 per person. To hold a date, a non-refundable deposit of $50/camp participant is required. The remainder is due 2 weeks before the camp begins.

Each team member should bring personal work gloves and safety glasses, as well as clothing and footwear appropriate for the jobs and weather. We work even when it’s raining! We have a fully stocked supply warehouse where many other tools and personal protective equipment can be checked out for use. A list of some additional items needed for each Work Crew will be sent to your church leaders with their registration packet. Volunteers are required to provide their own transportation to and from the worksite each day.

Yes, groups are welcome. We host church and corporate groups regularly. Groups of 8-10 or less are generally assigned to a single worksite. Groups larger than 10 may be assigned to 2 or more homes.

For safety reasons Good Works requires minors (under the age of 18) to be accompanied by a responsible adult. It is recommended that children be no younger than 15 years of age.

All staff and volunteers are asked to serve in a God-honoring manner:

  1. See people as God sees them (1 John 4:11). Good Works is a no-judgement zone.
  2. Give God your best (Col 3:23-24). Craftsmanship like it’s your own home.
  3. Serve without expectations (Luke 6:35). Practice the Golden Rule.
  4. Give God the glory (2 Corinthians 10:17). Humbly serve others.
  5. Let the Holy Spirit guide you. (Galatians 5:25) Do as your conscience leads.
