Partnering to Serve, Growing Together in Faith

Partnering with Good Works lets churches put faith into action, serving local families and neighborhoods. These projects strengthen the community while building connections and compassion within the congregation.

Our Partner Churches are truly the backbone of our workdays. An idea that began in 1996 with one church becoming our partner has increased to 19 enthusiastic partners, crossing denominational lines.

Becoming a Partner Church with Good Works embraces the true meaning of an active faith and serves as a tangible way for a church to come alongside Good Works and help us fulfill our mission. That mission is to transform lives by repairing homes for low-income families and sharing the hope found in Jesus Christ. Churches may serve as a traditional Partner Church or as an Ambassador Partner Church.

Traditional Partner Church

A Traditional Partner Church is a ministry of Good Works that links a church with a low-income family in Chester County. The church commits to providing comprehensive home repairs, engaging volunteers from their congregation to participate in 1 Saturday workday (8am-4pm) each month. On average, it takes 12-18 workdays to complete a home. In the process, meaningful and trusting relationships are fostered that often continue beyond the workday.

The Partner Church outreach embraces the true meaning of active, living faith and provides opportunities to extend God’s love in a variety of ways, enriching the lives and faith of both volunteers and homeowners.

Ambassador Partner Church

The local church’s mission is to proclaim, preserve, and display the gospel which can only be accomplished when members respond to Jesus’ Great Commission (Mark 16:15). An Ambassador Partner Church commits to providing a Church Focal and at least ten “Workday” and/or “Beyond the Workday” Ambassadors each month. Good Works Ambassadors are volunteers who minister to the relational, emotional and spiritual needs of homeowners, their families, volunteers, neighbors and others on our workdays.

Ambassadors share the hope found only in Jesus Christ. Good Works will qualify, train, assign, equip and support Ambassadors.

Partner Church FAQ

The Church Focal is a respected member of the church with a heart for local missions and is willing to be the chief advocate for Good Works. They serve as the primary point of contact between Good Works and their church, its leaders and congregation. This includes recruiting volunteers, ensuring various roles are filled, advocating for funding and support and monitoring church participation. The Church Focal plays a vital role in fostering a strong, ongoing partnership with Good Works.

Good Works provides technical and logistical support throughout the home-repair process, as well as all the tools and building materials necessary to complete the work. We pray for the team, provide support, training and additional resources.

Ten volunteers per workday is a good goal, but the numbers may wax or wane depending on the work to be accomplished. The church is responsible to provide a Church Focal, a Crew Leader, a Technical Advisor, a Lunch Coordinator and a Volunteer Coordinator. The rest of the team can be members of your congregation or even your church high school youth group. Most of the team only requires a servant’s heart and a willingness to help as needed.  Skilled volunteers are always greatly appreciated.

What will Good Works provide? Good Works provides access to its mission field and will qualify, train, assign, equip and support Ambassadors.

Good Works Ambassadors are volunteers who minister to the relational, emotional and spiritual needs of homeowners, their families, volunteers, neighbors and others on our workdays. Ambassadors share the hope found only in Jesus Christ.

Once a home has been completed a Beyond the Workday Ambassador continues the faith/ relational piece of Good Works. They provide a listening ear, godly encouragement, time of prayer and ensuring the homeowner that they are not alone. This is accomplished by contacting the homeowner with one phone call a month.

The local church’s mission is to proclaim, preserve, and display the gospel which can only be accomplished when members respond to Jesus’ Great Commission (Mark 16:15).

Try before you buy. Recruit a team from your church to participate in a Good Works workday or two. When your group is ready to commit, identify the key leaders needed for a workday along with a core team of volunteers, sign the Partner Church agreement, contribute financially, start praying regularly for the homeowner and the repairs and you will be a Good Works Partner Church. Contact Deb Damon to get started today!
